NO on Measure U
Measure U seeks to update the city's existing Utilities Users Tax (UUT) so that it can be applied equally to both older telephone technology and to newer telecommunications technology. While the measure is written in a way to appear that it is reducing taxes from 7% to 6.5%, in reality citizens would end up paying more taxes because more items would be taxable. A vote of "NO" would ultimately eliminate the tax completely because the older version of the tax code will likely be challenged in court, as is happening throughout the state. In these economically distressed times, it would be appropriate to give citizens much needed relief from such taxes on essential telecommunications services. The ANCG-PAC believes citizens should vote NO on this measure so that they can reduce their tax burden. |
